A unique event in the picturesque town of Šimuni - the Days of the Squid!

From September 26 to 29, 2024, Šimuni invited all lovers of fresh seafood and exciting competitions to a unique experience: the "Days of Squid". During these four days, visitors can expect an exciting mix of fishing activities, culinary challenges and socializing. It is a perfect opportunity for the whole family to get together and enjoy the beauty of the Croatian coast.

Registration and social interaction

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., participants were able to register and have their first conversations with other fish lovers. The registration fee was €30 per person and entitled the participant to take part in all competitions. There is a special offer for those who use their boat and bring along other participants: They are exempt from the registration fee.

A culinary highlight

On Friday, September 27, the brudet cooking competition took place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Teams of two people compete against each other and have the task of preparing a traditional brudet. The teams have a cauldron, various spices and fresh ingredients at their disposal. The preparations are judged by three experienced judges selected from the oldest locals. The winner receives the "Golden Chef" award - a title that not only brings honor, but also comes with a prize of €100.

Squid hunting

The Squid Days continue with a Squid Hunting Competition. Participants have the chance to go out to sea with experienced fishermen and experience the real fishing life up close. Enjoy the refreshing sea air and feel the thrill as you try to catch some of the coveted squid yourself. During this competition, teams are free to choose where they want to catch, but must be safely back in port by 9pm. The team with the largest weight of squid caught will be awarded the "Hands of the Sea" prize. Again, the evening is rounded off with a delicious squid risotto and musical entertainment until midnight. This competition took place on Thursday, September 26, at 6 pm.

Mains repair

Saturday, September 28, will be intense with the net repair competition from 10 am to 12 noon. Each participant will be given a 1 m² net which they must repair within 50 cm. Speed and accuracy will be judged. The fastest and most skillful participant can take home the "Fastest Thread" prize.

The big award ceremony

The last day, Sunday, September 29th, was dedicated to the announcement of the winners, which took place between 10 am and 12 noon. Prizes were awarded in various categories, including:

• Golden Chef - 1st prize: 100 €

• Hands from the end - 1st prize: 100 €

• Fastest thread - 1st prize: 50 €

• Hands from the sea - 1st prize: 150 €

• Fish champion - 500 € for the participant with the most points in all disciplines.

The points are awarded according to a fixed system and ensure exciting competition conditions!
