Stroll through the picturesque alleys with numerous restaurants and small shops that often offer the world-famous Pag lace. Pag has barely 4000 inhabitants and is less than 10 km away from Šimuni.
The name goes back to the ancient Romans who called the strategically well-located place, Pagus. The first written mention of the town goes back to 1070. Of the original town, only the St. George Church with a statue of the Virgin Mary exists today. To fight the plague in 1510, the Pagers burned their city down and rebuilt it not far to the North.
The Pag sea salt, which is one of the best quality in the world, is still popular today. The sea water condenses in natural clay basins that extend to around 2.5 million square meters, leaving behind the white gold.
